26 new citizens are welcomed in Berks naturalization ceremony

A naturalization ceremony was held Wednesday where people from eight different countries of origin took their citizenship oath.

Guerdie Felix-Fleurenvil didn’t want to leave Haiti, she felt that she had to.

About eight years ago she found herself in an abusive marriage. The only escape she could find from her husband’s violence was to leave the only home she had ever known.

So that’s what she did.

Felix-Fleurenvil packed up and moved to the United States, eventually settling in Berks County. There, she not only found safety, but also happiness.

Felix-Fleurenvil has fallen in love with her adopted home. She loves living in Berks, she loves her job as a certified nurse practitioner at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center.

“I came here to save my life,” she said. “But I ended up finding so much to be thankful for that I’m glad I can finally call this my home.”
