HOW DO YOU FIND A QUALIFIED LAWYER WHO CAN HELP?
You need to consult with an attorney. Our members are skilled attorneys who can fight for your rights, draft valid legal documents, and stand by you in the courtroom.
Don’t be misled by television ads for online legal forms. Notaries and petition preparers cannot give legal advice or accompany you to court. And “do-it-yourself” law is a fast lane to disaster. There are many 800 numbers, commercial directories, online services, and so-called multi-service providers out there who claim to provide free solutions to your legal needs; however, none are more qualified than your local Bar Association. Our members know Pennsylvania law, are available for personal consultations, and are accountable to you.
If you need a qualified lawyer in Berks County, Pennsylvania, the Berks County Bar Association can help. The Berks County Bar Association has been serving the needs of our profession and community since 1867. Attorneys serving on the lawyer referral panel are required to be licensed and actively engaged in the practice of law in Berks County.
They must be in good standing with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and act in compliance with the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct. While our service does not directly employ attorneys or provide free legal advice, we would be pleased to match you with an attorney who is conveniently located and qualified to handle your specific legal matter.
MODEST MEANS PROGRAM
If you're an individual who does not meet the eligibility requirements to qualify for Legal Aid, you may still be able to receive legal representation from an active and qualified Berks County attorney at a discounted rate through the Modest Means Program. The program seeks to serve a segment of the population in need of legal services that is neither serviced by the existing legal aid system or lawyers in private practice. Persons eligible for the Modest Means Program are those applicants whose total income exceeds legal aid standards by 75%.
Please Note: These figures will vary as legal aid standards change.
The Modest Means Program offers representation, contingent on a income screening, for the following case types:
- Unemployment Compensation Claims
- Landlord-Tenant, on behalf of the Tenant, under a Residential Lease
- Child Support
- Child Custody
- Defense of Credit Card and Collection Matters
- Bankruptcy
- Protection from Abuse (PFA)
- Residential Lease/Rental Purchase (Rent-to-Own) Review
- Defense of Residential Foreclosure Cases
- Divorce (Uncontested)
- Estate Planning
- Traffic Violations
To see if you qualify for the Modest Means Program, please contact MidPenn Legal Services for an income screening.
