Berks lawyers rate 3 judicial candidates in bar association poll

Jill Scheidt received the most highly recommended votes.

Berks lawyers have weighed in on the qualifications of the three candidates competing in the primary election to fill two vacant Berks County Court judgeships.

The Berks County Bar Association recently conducted a poll of its 518 active members regarding the candidates, each of whom also practices in Berks. A total of 267 of the members submitted responses, according to association Executive Director Kori Walter.

A naturalization ceremony was held Wednesday at the Berks County Courthouse. 

Haijun Wu has lived in the U.S. for nearly two decades, ever since he departed China to attend Penn State University in pursuit of a doctoral degree in food engineering.

He’s been a Berks County resident for the last 13 years. He has a home here, he has raised his two daughter here, and he has a good job here as a food safety consultant.

In many ways, he’s felt like an American for a long time. On Wednesday, he made it official.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania honored four Berks County leaders, Susan Denaro, Kristin Boyd Edwards, Dr. Jacquelyn S. Fetrow and Dr. Deborah Powell, during the annual Take the Lead event. The leadership program fosters mentorships with distinguished women whose work and achievements make the community and world a better place.
